Overview

Programme :
Three-stage development of the Allées Jean-Jaurès avenue.

Description :
The main design concepts are:
 - Reimagining the avenue as a homogenous system with a continuous architectural facade, with some sections more hardscaped, others more plantscaped; affirming the avenue’s role as a major and significant axis within the overall structure of the city.
 - Finding intimate spaces within the larger scale of the avenue: scenes of everyday life, places for relaxation, socialising, and a wide range of activities.
  - Bringing the Jardins de la Fontaine into the city by creating a series of gardens along the avenue, a continuous sequence of green spaces along its entire length, spaces which can also be used for hosting special events.
- Creating a simple design with a clear hierarchy; breaking the space down into distinct functions and allowing for the coexistence of different circulation types while prioritising pedestrians, businesses, and the spatial quality of the avenue.
 - Creating a flexible and modular design capable of retaining the integrity of the original concept in the face of programme and budget changes, and highly adaptable to phasing and contextual constraints.
 - Ensuring pedestrian safety is at the heart of the space by creating obstruction- and traffic-free walkways and a large central walkway running the entire length of the avenue.
- Giving the avenue a real role to play in public life by promoting activities throughout the year, and allowing them to coexist and proliferate easily with special events.
